X35 coil user review

The guys at XP Metal Detectors have been very busy. In the last 18 months,  XP delivered several new products, starting with the great HF coils then the MI-6/4 probe pointers, and ow the newest X35 coils, not counting the several firmware updates spoiling us with all the constant new improvements.

My friends and fellow XP Deus users are very happy about XP’s marketing strategy, choosing to focus their work and production around existing machines products rather than hurrying  out a totally new machine. The HF coils proved to breathe some truly fresh air onto the Deus, we tested them and we must say that they are an essential addition for a serious setup, without doubts.

Now, with the new X35 coil line, everything continues on the path to being better.
The new X35s are available as accessories and also included in the new Deus packages, at the same price of the old ones. From what I have been told the X35’s are built around new, and better technology, presenting a very slightly modified coil design, mostly visible in the details and junctions.

The X35s are available in 22cm (9”), 28cm (11”) and 34 / 28cm (13” x11”) offering a total of 35 frequencies built around the main 5 ones, then each frequency has 7 offsets 3.7 to 4.4kHz, 7.1 to 8.4kHz, 10.5 to 12.4kHz, 15.2 to 17.8kHz, 23.5 to 27.7kHz. The high frequency 23- 27.7kHz is very stable.

Probably one of the most attractive new features for me is the boost mode, which is available when using 3.7Khz to 4.4 kHz. While selecting in the Boost mode, the coil power moves up a little, resulting in considerably higher performances, especially on highly conductive targets. The boost mode combined with the 3.7Khz to 4.4 kHz penetrated deep…deeper than we have experienced with the older coils.

We were lucky enough luck to test all the three X35s. We decided to start the review with the 28cm (11”),  considering that most probably it was going to be the main choice for most Deus users. We tested the new X35 28cm beside the old 28cm Deus coil, just in order to clearly spot the differences.

Signal clarity

First of all, the X35 coil is considerably more stable and silent. We also noticed a slightly better separation between targets, a clearer definition and sound, and an overall battery improvement. The differences between the coils were not clearly notable on the 4, 11, 17 Khz frequencies (let’s say that on some targets the X35 had about a 0,5/1cm depth advantage), but things changed on 3,7Khz with the boost mode on.  Yes, it’s about depth, the main concern for so many of you out there, and yes, this combo will push your machine deeper, and you’ll truly notice that.

The 28cm round X35 coil, on 3,7Khz and boost mode on, will deliver some answers.  A penny sized silver coin, was crystal clear at a 15cm depth, the sound was exactly the same at 20cm depth, while the old 28 coil at 20cm of depth was reporting a ”scratchy” signal.

Boost mode

While using the boost mode, your machine will perform at it’s peak performance, so the battery will respond differently; you’ll have about 6 hours of detecting in boost mode with fully charged equipment.

Another very important feature, is the possibility to switch from a very deep program (boost mode on 3,7Khz) to high frequency prospecting program, located at 27Khz.

By combining both depth and HF programs, you will be able to perform a serious scan of your targeted area.

If you want to go even further, and are prepared for a lot of shovel work, we advise you to go for the bigger X35 34 x28cm / 13”x11” coil.

We tested it very briefly, and we must say that you’ll reach some surprising depths with it.

We will get back to you with a more extensive review of the big 13”x11” coil.

The new X35 search coils for the XP Deus have taken coil metal detector search coil construction to a new level, in terms of stability and signal clarity I personally think there is a noticeable difference. Testing the new X35 line-up has so far been a very positive experience and proves that XP are constantly looking at raising the quality levels and passing them on to the customers.

The whole XP Deus experience has to be the choice of the professional hunter, it is one of the very few machines out there that actually gives the user a chance to interact with it into a metal detector for YOUR specific needs.

Thanks once more to XP for delivering such incredible equipment ithout the need to buy a completely new machine, always up to date and thinking about the customers needs!
